DUNEDITIN 2008

For the very first time in the history of Duneditin, the largest blogging conference in the southern hemisphere, this year's conference will be held in the northern hemisphere, in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The official conference dates are 20th to 29th July 2008. The call for papers has already gone out to everyone who attended in previous years, and registrations are now being accepted.

Plenary session topics are planned to include "the writer as blogger", postmodern blogging and the work of Nobis Ralwin, pitch technology, and invertebrate ICUs, with the keynote address to be delivered by a well-known A-list blogger.

All spouses and partners are welcome to attend the conference dinner.

I'd like to submit an abstract in response to the cfp, on the topic of Cricket poetry and blogging. I'm sure this topic will be of great interest to the attendees. Is the venue the Edinburgh Conference Centre?

Although not a previous attender, I hope my incipient abstract on slugs, EEG signals and not blogging might be considered.

Dear colleagues, I have forwarded your submissions to the Conference Organisers. Coincidentally, your topics fall within our key subject areas this year, so I'm confident you'll be successful. Sadly, the planned seminar on meditation has had to be dropped due to lack of interest.

I hope to see you there.

If you'll be requiring refreshments, please contact the Conference Organiser (Northern Hemisphere), a Mr McKenzie, regarding venue and quantities.

Maybe I could submit a paper on blogging, the evil bourgeois, and the lack of eastern anaesthesia procurement funds, but only if at this conference I am immunised from flatheidedness by tons of free drink and drugs. That might help overcome my natural reluctance to perform in public. Hotboy

Can I put in an order for a plentiful supply of MGT?

Do you think that my proposed title "The uplifting influence of East African lesser-known cricket poetry blogs on post-adolescent delinquents in Scotland, 2007-2008" is rather too general?

Dear Mr Badboy, as you live near the venue, are you able to organise the refreshments? The organiser usually receives free alco-free lager all night.

MM - the committee suggests narrowing it down to post-adolescent delinquents in Scotland, on tour April 2008.

Thanks for that. Have revised the submission. What time am I on? Hopefully not before opening time.

It's organised by antipodeans, so your guess is as good as mine.

With papers on bliss blogging, slugs and blogging, African cricket poetry and blogging, windmills and blogging (if William can make it - he seems a bit busy at the moment), flatheidedness and blogging - it's turning out to be quite a programme! Do you think the venue will be big enough?

Mrs M was wondering if she could attend the co-current Evil Bourgeois and Blogging workshop.

Events Johnny! Since I am permanently skint just now, I may brew a barrel of home made beer. I might pickle some snakes in it to make the foreign contingent feel at home. No wonder the lager is free! Only strange people drink that! Hope this helps. Hotboy p.s. I may attend in disguise.

MM - good point. I believe the Edinburgh organiser has transferred the event to somewhere more cavernous. He can put your good lady on the guest list.

E.O. (Edin) - did you get that? Can you help?

Many thanks from Mrs M. She is certainly looking forwards to learning about the Evil Bourgeois.

Menzies IV has not yet reported on finding Carslemane, yet. If he does manage to locate him, I'm sure he would be interested in giving a talk on The Importance of Dunnies in Outback Blogging.

Who is going to pocket the Erdinger sponorship money? I feel that we need to know.

Will American Footbal helmets be compulsory for all speakers and attendees?

Do we have a location for the event yet? Don't let Hotters choose it, or we'll end up in one of those dreadful bars with old people in it, which Hotters frequents in order to make him feel younger.

I understand that the conference sherry reception is being held at Brian Wilson's castle on Saturday 26th. Is that correct?

I detest sherry and am assuming latitude for bringing one's own poison(s), salads, mezze...

The organiser will have to transmit dress code (eg cricket whites, ballgowns, loincloths etc) and confirm date.

I understand that Albert is in charge of the invitations and will be contacting all registered attendees with relevant details.

I believe that July 26th has been booked, at 7.30 (sundown time at Kalimbuka)

I'm shipping over Doviko to lend a hand at Brian Wilson's with the catering. He will be able to cater for every demand - carnivors, vegeterian, etc, plus some soda-pop for the teetotal Hotters.

Mrs M will also be in attendance.

Cricket whites, safari suits, and such like are by no means expected.

Guns must be left at the door, however (house rule).
